SERVICES
PRODUCER | MIXING
Producer - How the Song Should Feel
Mixing - How The Song Elements Mesh
PRODUCER
I will help you write or arrange your song. I will ask questions and immerse myself in your vision and help shape as much or as little as needed based on the desired feel of a track. From The rhythm section, to the melodies, counter melodies and post production ideas and tones. As a producer, I temporarily become a primary idea contributor to the specific project with you.
MIXING
After all the individual pieces of your song have been captured and edited, I will dive into the vision of your song with you and hyperfocus on each element of the song until we have the mix that fits THAT song. Whether that feel is smooth and kushy or pissed off and pushy. We will achieve cohesion and vibe.
MASTERING
Mastering - How the song
Actualizes, Translates & Shines
MASTERING
I will master your song in one of two ways
Stereo Mastering - This is the standard or norm when it comes to mastering.
I will take your completed and final approved stereo mix and use my library of tools to deliver to you a premium master that stands next to commercial releases without missing a beat in power or dynamics.
STEM MASTERING
I will take the summed down stereo elements of your mix (For Example)
All Drums Only.Wav
All Guitars Only.Wav
All Vox Only.Wav
etc..
This will allow some additional control for leveling and shaping of major elements as the mastering process takes place. This isn't considered traditional mastering but sort of acts as a hybrid between mixing and mastering and it has surely saved many mixes from the trash bin.

ABOUT
If you're stopping by this page, wether out of curiosity, to grab one of the gifts or products we offer at N.R. or want to get into contact about working together. I'd like to say .... thank you! I'll take this opportunity to give you guys some insight about myself and my studio.
My name is Kevin Newland. I founded NewLand Recordings in January of 2010 in a town just outside of Charlotte,North Carolina called Gastonia. Also known as
G-town, The Gas House or The Big Geezy.
I started my musical journey at age 13 by saving lunch money to buy my first used squire stratocaster because my parents said that I couldn't have drums...I'm sure this doesn't resonate with anyone else...lol
Although, I wanted to be Joey Jordison of SlipKnot or Travis Barker of Blink-182 which were two of my heros at the time. I realized that Mick Thomson and Tom Delonge would just have to do.
AKA- Playing the best possible hand with the cards dealt lol.
Begrudgingly, at a friends house one day after school I held his guitar around my neck and looked in the mirror. He said "you look cool man" and at that moment even though I wanted to play drums, I admitted to myself
"Kinda lame.....but if this is the price of entry...so be it."
It turns out that I made the best choice of my life by grabbing that guitar. Suddenly my world exploded with how vast and overwhelming the instrument was. This started an obsession that changed my life forever.
I began playing with the church band around age 14 which then transitioned into heavier rock bands and on into metal-core, melodic hardcore, down tempo, and other sub genres of metal music for the rest of my late teens and early 20's.
This process of being in a band and writing songs and preparation for the studio always seemed to pull my attention like nothing else. One day after a recording session,I spent an hour with the producer talking about how to get my first recording setup going and advice on potential gear lists for getting started.
I then decided to take the bit of money that I had saved up and invested it into my first home studio setup.
As my gear is in the mail and set to arrive, I approached a particularly tight sounding younger local band at a show I was performing at. After talking for about thirty minutes after their set and with no engineering experience and no idea how to even set up a recording session....I somehow had landed my first EP recording gig and officially founded Newland Recordings.
It has now been just over 12 years of creating some absolutely crushing tunes and art with musicians from all over the world. There have been billboard topping songs and there have been incredible tracks that would have been life changing to some but never got the marketing and in turn, the play time they deserved.
Regardless of outcome, the goal has the same for every project from 2010 to present moment...
..To accurately create and capture the emotional and energetic feeling that THAT song is trying to voice through the artist.
I was lucky very early on in my career to have the pleasure of working alongside and learning from a few great producers in the industry such as Cameron Mizell out of CHANGO STUDIOS in both Florida and Arizona locations as well as with
Brian Hood of 456 RECORDINGS in Nashville, Tennessee where I took up residency for 6 months to engineer for his studio full time before moving back to Gastonia to continue pursuing audio and production closer to "home".
If you're thinking about reaching out for a potential project
We must remember that the primary goal is always to create music in a way that leaves a feeling with the listener long after the last note fades....
Building the solid foundation and concrete bedrock that your
music stands on carries a significant amount of weight>
I believe this to goes without saying but i'm saying it...
....who YOU choose to have on YOUR audio production team.
MATTERS
" I Look forward to hearing from you!"

TESTIMONIALS

"We recorded our first EP (Hit and Run) with Kevin Newland. Ever since then we always referred to his studio as Newland Boot Camp. Not only is it a great place to end up with a great product, but he also helps you grow as an artist. It’s hard to imagine us becoming the band we are today without the time we spent with him in the studio.”
Michael Greason - The Second After

“During the tracking of our album REAL. I had the pleasure of working with Kevin, my band mates and I had nothing but good times with him engineering our record."
Tyler (Telle) Smith - The Word Alive

“Working with Kevin was a breeze. The best workflow dynamic occurs when you have an engineer who is driven toward perfection, but so personable that it relieves the pressure and anxiety that so often comes along with the recording process. Kevin made the tedious moments enjoyable, and most importantly captured performances with precision and attention to detail. I would bet money that our album Everchanger still holds the record for fastest tracked bass at 456 Recordings.”
